This is part of the section of the island of Oahu where millions of years ago, part of the island broke apart and fell into the sea. You can easily tell by the high cliffs that go straight into the ocean, where the water is a dark blue because it is so deep. Because of this interesting quality, you can sometimes be lucky and see a whale up close. The ocean is deep, so the whales sometimes venture close to the cliffs in search of food. All along this coastline, there are many scenic points, such as Makapuu point (the Makapuu lighthouse hike is fun), Hanauma Bay, and the place I recently visited, China Walls. China Walls is popular amongst locals because it seems private (barely any tourists, and barely any people even), and you can dive into the ocean from the edge. This is dangerous of course, as you can see by the warning posts. But people are still drawn to diving there anyway. My personal favorite is “Spitting Caves”, but we got lost on the way and ended up at “China Walls” – which is not bad, but not my favorite. The sunset that day was beautiful, so it made up for my loss. Of course, there are the two famously blinding green buildings built right next to Ward Centre. Whenever the sun hits the side, it cascades a green glow across all of Ward Centre, and everywhere you look, it’s green. We walked across from Borders to take a look, and took some pictures.There’s also another set of buildings which were built only months after the greens ones near Ward, and we nickname is “The Hard Drive Towers”. Don’t they look like a typical external harddrive? It is 2008 now.As for Michael and Me, we went to downtown and walked around the area on New Years. It was great because no one was around. I like that better because it’s easier for me to go “click” “click” away with my new camera, Canon EOS 40D.We walked through City Hall and took pictures of the Christmas trees in there, which were almost wilted because they’ve been out so long already. Still pretty though. Then we went across the street to Kawaiaho Church, which I think was the first church ever to be built in Hawaii. Grand place, too. I liked the benches on the side because they were so small. We left on Friday night (our plane departed at 11:50PM) and reached there on Saturday morning. It was so surprising because it snowed that morning until the afternoon. The last time I’ve ever seen snowfall was back when I was 4 years old. We rode their streetcar, which was very quiet, clean, and free.Of course, we couldn’t take any pictures at the Van Halen concert, but we have pictures of everything else. I heard it rains a lot there, and the moss growing on all the trees really make you realize that. It was so cold, but so much fun! The temperature at night was in the 30’s, and during the day was in the 40’s, sometimes below freezing. Brrr! I caught a cold, but it was well worth it to see the beautiful autumn colors. We were mostly in Philadephia, but also visited New Jersey and Delaware. There were so many different movies from all over the world . My favorite was a movie called American Fusion. It was very funny, and the writer based the movie on his family.Most of the movies were played at Dole Cannery Theatres, but my favorite was the one that was at the Hawaii Theatre. They were here in Hawaii to perform at the Okinawan concert too! Their songs always help me to feel much better – it’s great that there are groups out there who are promoting a slower paced lifestyle, and letting us know that sometimes in life, work isn’t always the most important.
